Electro (clash) disco king Larry Tee chatted to Skrufff this week about his new Thursday night venture Disgraceland at Crobar and suggested the club?s instant success could herald a revival in Manhattan?s until recently moribund nightlife.



?Crobar are being very serious about maintaining the current rules of New York City nightlife but the clubbers coming to Disgraceland are finding their own special way of learning to be transgressive,? said Larry.

?Instead of the dry new wave seriousness that you used to get at Luxx (Larry?s last club in Williamsburg) the dress is more Nu romantic or glitzy but what?s most important is the mix of people we?re attracting,? he added.

?We?ve got straights, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals and without all these types together, the effect wouldn?t be the same.?



Disgraceland has been pulling over 700 revellers each week since opening several weeks ago, drawn to DJs including Tiga, Tevor Jackson, Princess Julia and Princess Superstar as well as performance artists recruited by the club.

?The vibe is about anything goes and we?ve even got a guy called 'Naked Man' who walks around with a tiger skin draped over his shoulder and boots and nothing else,? Larry continued.

?If he was absolutely naked, that would be against the liquor laws but because he?s wearing shoes and a shoulder drape he?s technically not naked. Leave it to New Yorkers to find a way to express themselves even in a repressive environment.



I think things are finally getting better in New York for outrageous nightlife,? Larry concluded.

?The dirty disco and acid-electro-disco thing seems to be the ticket right now and it feels like there?s a distinct party mood in the air.?
