VODAFONE FIRESTARTERS AT ADE NEXT Vodafone Firestarters is a platform for innovation and inspiration, focusing on various creative disciplines. During ADE Next, Vodafone’s traveling talk show will cover two topics: image innovation and how not to festifail.
IMAGE INNOVATION It’s hard to define who you are as a person. But as an artist, you are in control of what you are about and how the world perceives you. Such image-building doesn’t stop with a cool Facebook profile pic, or even with providing up-to-date info about your whereabouts on your various online media. You need to innovate, and get creative with the means at your disposal. Be on top of your demographic and expand it. Make them love you. Image Innovation shows you how. Guests: DJ/producer Sander Kleinenberg and Noisia manager Walter Flapper.
HOW NOT TO FESTIFAIL It may look like the festival bubble has popped, resulting in empty dance floors and organisations going bankrupt by the pound. So where does this leave the ambitious promoter who has been contemplating organising a mind-blowing new festival? Don’t despair, there’s always room for fresh new things; it’s all about knowing what you’re doing. How can innovation in promo, programming, visual identity, production and positioning add up to an amazing festival? We will deal with this matter at How Not to Festifail. Guests: James Minor (SXSW) and Michel Penders (Plus1).
Both talkshows can be viewed after the event on vodafonefirestarters.nl. Vodafone Firestarters is open for all ADE Next visitors. Tickets are € 15,- (+ service charge) and available here: http://bit.ly/QGnmXU

‘Vom Bleiben’ documents the moment when the night has finished in a techno club. It is the moment when the visitors have left the location but their traces are still visible. When the clubs close at daybreak, Giesemann and Schulz enter the space and the battlefield that has been left behind. As soon as the last visitor has left and the cleaning-lights are turned on, they start to photographically record the present scene and atmosphere.
Andre Giesemann and Daniel Schulz have never shown outside of Germany and this is their first solo show in a gallery. ADE is proud to present ‘Vom Bleiben’ in Ten Haaf Projects.

A special guest from Ibiza is coming over to AIR for ADE. On Saturday October 20th, the successful concept We Love... will be held in the club for the very first Amsterdam edition.
We Love has been an Ibiza concept since 1999. During the warm and sultry summers on the island, party animals, locals, vacationers and hippies head to Space on Sunday with one objective: raise hell! Now ADE is just around the corner and the We Love Family is ready to go.
James Zabiela is without a doubt one of the favourite We Love residents and is no stranger to AIR. He has played in AIR twice before, the last gig during last year’s ADE. Fake Blood will be also headlining the evening. He will be making his We Love debut during ADE in AIR. Fake Blood became well-known amongst a wider audience with his hit ‘I Think I Like It’. The three Belgians that together form THE SUBS were guests to AIR last year during ADE as well and completely tore down the house.
We Love will be bringing along more of their season residents. Foamo has been added to the AIR1 line-up. DJ Hell will be the main act in AIR2. Ivan Smagghe and Raf Daddy of The 2 Bears will support him in this dark but atmospheric hall. The line-up will be completed by a special performance by a surprise guest.

Trouw presents two special resident nights at ADE. On Thursday October the 18th, Trouw will be taken over by Colors Amsterdam. Everyone, with the exception of Maya Jane Coles, has played in Trouw earlier this year at Colors. The 23-year-old Coles is labeled as one of the most emerging artists in the electronic dance scene.

ADE Conference: HDE reveals first topics & speakers
The first seminars and presentations of the 2012 edition of the Hard Dance Event have been revealed! This year’s edition, which now takes place at the Melkweg, promises to be the most exciting edition to date.
Global Phenomenon Focused on the rapidly expanding hard EDM market the first seminar brings four internationally successful organizers together to tell all about their enterprises, tactics and future challenges. 'A Global Phenomenon' features representatives of Nature One, Defqon.1 Festival Australia, E-Mission and Heroes of Hardstyle.
Online opportunities Because hard EDM can count on a thoroughly dedicated audience both off- and online there are still so many options left unused. Connecting with your existing and future fans goes 2.0 in Ron van de Sterren's presentation on 'Online Opportunities'. The truth about blogs, what is there to gain on Facebook and everything you should not do on Twitter.
Brand Involvement The one of a kind profile of the hard EDM industry makes it an interesting catch for companies that want to reach their target audience from new angles. In a world that has outgrown simple advertising we have all the right cards to have our hard to reach audience participate in a two direction model. ‘Brand Involvement’ is thé seminar to start becoming valuable for companies and give your fans something in return.
Demonstrations As every year we will have a fully equipped demonstration room and one of our returning partners is Pioneer Pro DJ. They will be showcasing their latest power tools: the Pioneer RMX1000 and the CDJ-2000 Nexus. BBC’s Radio One dj Kutski will demonstrate the whole package of features on this new, industry changing, dj equipment.
‘Why visit Music & Bits? When your interest is music, in any way whatsoever, and the internet is your tool, these are the people you want to meet.’
Music & Bits is a dedicated conference program within ADE that focuses on trends, business opportunities and the latest developments in the world of online music. Sounds pretty serious, right? But we bet you’ve never had breakfast with the CEO of This Is My Jam before...

This year’s Music & Bits program sees the addition of the Techlounge, located in the main hall of De Balie. This is where you can hook up with music press, producers, tech companies, entrepreneurs, developers, hackers and dedicated music enthusiasts, all in a smoothly comforting environment.
Tickets for Music and Bits are available in two options: a 3-day ticket (€ 100,-) and a 1-day ticket (€ 50,-). Get your tickets here: http://bit.ly/QGnmXU

Obviously, you’re going to get your dose of electronic music at ADE. But what if you don’t want to hear bouncy techno beats at debilitating allnighters, and would like to see some old-fashioned musicians with proper instruments instead? Some British and Norwegian jazz for instance, or an iPad concert on a 4D soundsystem, both at the stunning Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ. http://bit.ly/SkY3Xo
ADE Conference: Exclusive Keynote interview with Danny Tenaglia at ADE Pro
If anyone deserves the title of 'the DJ’s DJ', it’s Danny Tenaglia. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Tenaglia was already around during the heyday of the Big Apple’s disco scene.
He was also a regular at clubs like Tunnel, Vinyl and Twilo, where he got huge recognition for playing mammoth sets - often lasting for more than twelve hours - featuring his trademark tribal sound. ADE is honored to announce that Danny Tenaglia will do a keynote interview at ADE Pro, which will be moderated by Tommie Sunshine. http://bit.ly/RUS9Cp

ADE Playground: The worldwide success of Dutch dance music is undeniable. Dutch DJ’s and producers are performing all over the world. Dutch dance music generates 60% of all Dutch music export, generating a staggering 50 million of export euros in 2010. How is it possible that our small country has such a large influence on the dance scene, and what is it exactly that this influence entails?
In the last few years documentary makers tried to answer these questions by following Dutch DJ’s, such as Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Afrojack and Chuckie, around the world, resulting in the promising ‘Dutch Influence’. The worldwide success of Dutch dance music is undeniable. Dutch DJ’s and producers are performing all over the world. Dutch dance music generates 60% of all Dutch music export, generating a staggering 50 million of export euros in 2010. How is it possible that our small country has such a...
ADE Conference: ADE Beamlab reveals its third name:
Addictive TV & Resolume Once so eloquently described as ‘next level shit’ by Grandmaster Flash, British electronic duo Addictive TV (Graham Daniels & mash-up guru Mark Vidler) create music with a difference; it's music you can see. They are “responsible for mind-bending live entertainment” according to UK newspaper The Times. American music magazine XLR8R described them as "light years beyond the gallery realm of masters like Bill Viola" while US entertainment magazine Paste said “Addictive TV completely blew my mind! A compelling popculture audio/visual avalanche!” In their extraordinary work, Addictive TV delve deeply into movies and videos hunting for sounds and images to sample, creating dance music that fuses everything from fidget and electro to drum ‘n bass and rock. They create their music by keeping the audio and video samples together, so their fans get to see more than just a DJ, more than just graphics or visuals; they get to experience music in a genuinely unique way. The Hague based Resolume (Edwin de Koning & Bart van der Ploeg) worked with Addictive TV for their new performance set-up.

In our quest to photograph the cream of the crop of the worldwide electronic music scene, we finally managed to catch Dutch superstar Afrojack! Krijn van Noordwijk, ADE’s photographer, did a photoshoot with Afrojack last week at the Ace Agency headquarters.
Last week Afrojack also announced that he will return to ADE with his world famous event ‘Jacked’. Since its launch last year ‘Jacked’ grew into a world-class event, taking place in cities like Las Vegas, Miami, London, and Ibiza. The Afrojet flew from city to city to bring ‘Jacked’ to the biggest clubs in the world. Afrojack also did extensive ‘Jacked’ tours in the US and Europe.
And now it’s time for ‘Jacked’ to return to Amsterdam. This year’s ‘Jacked - ADE Special’ will take place on Wednesday the 17th of October at one of Amsterdam’s oldest and most prestigious venues, the Paradiso. This venue is known as the Dutch ‘Pop Temple’ and has an unparalleled reputation across the country.

ADE Festival: The Analogue Cops, Objekt, FunkinEven and special guest from R&S Records at Rhone Warehouse
THESE GUYS proudly present their contribution to ADE 2012. The event will take place on Saturday the 20th of October at Rhone Warehouse. Expect a special line-up at a venue where these sounds fit at their best; a Warehouse on the Westside of Amsterdam.
The Analogue Cops For the first time in the Netherlands, The Analogue Cops! This Italian collab consists of the producers Marieu and Lucretio. Together they moved to Berlin to build up their own independent Record label, Restoration Records. Heavily inspired by Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, Omar S and Derrick May they bring a warm and analog vibe with raw mixing skills from back in the days.
Objekt What do you get when a dubstep producer moves to Berlin and starts combining his dubby knowledge with raw Techno? The answer is killer white label releases made by Timothy Jose Hertz, known as Objekt. Getting played by artists such as Surgeon, James Ruskin, Blawan and Ben UFO he certainly knows what he is doing with his heavy bass containing gems.
Special guest Four weeks before ADE, the organization will reveal the secret identity of the special guest from R&S Records. The organization can’t say much about him, only that they are really stoked that they were able to add this floorfiller to the line-up. And that he brings the perfect combination of music from the past with the sound of today.

ADE and Beamlab team up for a dedicated visuals program at Pakhuis de Zwijger. With keynote presentations by top stage designers, live video operators, motion graphic designers and visual artists Beamlab will be ADE's melting pot for moving images and sound. Video art, interactive projection and light design are the cornerstones, with some of the worlds top artists and professionals talking about content, techniques, software, concepts and the growing importance of visuals in the international dance and concert industry. Moderator: Maaike Engels (Urbi et Orbi).
With: Rogier van der Zwaag (Nobody Beats The Drum) Rogier van der Zwaag (1982) is a director/vj who is always looking for new ways to let light, shapes and movement tell his stories. He is part of the audiovisual collective Nobody Beats The Drum from Amsterdam, sharing the stage with Sjam Sjamsoedin and Jori Collignon. Nobody Beats The Drum is in the front line of Dutch electronic dance music. While Sjam and Jori produce the music, Rogier produces all the video projections by blending his animations on a customized installation with their music. Rogier also made most of the Nobody Beats The Drum videos, like 'the Drum', 'Grindin' and 'Poisson Vert'. Together, the trio delivers a uniquely live audio/visual experience. At last year's Amsterdam Dance Event, the band presented their new live-setup: The Amazing 333'' TeleNovem Automaton, a bombastic 9 screen installation on which Rogier's live visual art is mapped and projected while Sjam and Jori simultaneously let the music explode. They had the installation copied in the USA where they intensively toured with it throughout the year, now to be back in Amsterdam for ADE where they will talk about their setup at Beamlab and play Melkweg with it on Thursday, October 18th.

You might be a talented producer but starting up your career takes more than just releasing tracks. How do you get attention from the right people for your floor filler? One way is to enter a competition, as winning a competition gets you media attention, interested professionals and a bigger fan base. But not automatically; even winning a competition means you have to work hard to benefit from it. Also, keep in mind that even just competing without actually winning the competition can add to your success. How? That’s what you will find out at the Vinylized panel during ADE Next.
Also during the panel, Vinylized 2012 winner Daniel Zuur will be handed the first copy of the vinyl on which his winning track Look Up feat. Kelly.

What is it about the Dutch and dance music? Following the Americans and the English, Holland was one of the first countries to lovingly adopt house music in the eighties. 25 years down the road, the Dutch are still doing their thing at the forefront of electronic music, whether it’s on international mainstages or in the deepest underground.
Generating a staggering 50 million of export euros in 2010, it’s safe to say that our dance music is serious business, especially when keeping in mind that The Netherlands is tiny country. But obviously it’s not all about the money; we all know that music is the answer in the end, right?

Ziggo Dome is Amsterdam’s biggest concert hall and opened in the Southeast part of town in June. Since then it has accommodated major music events for artists such as Madonna, Pearl Jam, Sting, and Paul Simon.
The building has a contemporary design, and looks like a big, black box. Its biggest strength is its sound: there is almost no reverberation, so amplified music sounds excellent, in spite of being able to hold up to 17,000 people.
The venue also prides itself for being an ‘entertainment center’, thus offering high quality service, like plenty of food and drinks and free cloakrooms. So whether you’re going to Chuckie’s Dirty Dutch, or wanna go hard stylin’ at Q-dance presents Headhunterz, rest assured, there are no lines at the restrooms.
