SINGLES: UK 12″ Theme From S-Express/The Trip(Microdot House Mix) [RHYTHM KING LEFT 21T]
UK CD Theme From S-Express (Herbal Tea Casualty Mix)*/The Trip(Microdot House Mix)/Theme From S-Express(7″) [RHYTHM KING LEFT 21CD] US 12″ Theme From S-Express(12″ U.S.A. Mix) + (7″ U.S.A. Mix)/The Trip(Microdot House Mix) [CAPITOL V-15377] US 7″ Theme From S-Express(7″ U.S.A. Mix)/Theme From S-Express(7″ U.S.A. Mix) [CAPITOL P-B-44181] * Remix by Mark Moore and Mark McGuire The USA Mixes were the same but with vocal samples reproduced by anyone who was hanging out in the studio. Stick to the superior UK mixes. Possibly a US Cassingle? Artwork by Trevor Jackson of Underdog and Playgroup fame. The UK 7″ came in a variant sleave showing a large S-Express logo on the front. UK 12″ Superfly Guy/Lolly-Pop+Funky Killer [RHYTHM KING LEFT 28T] UK 12″ Superfly Guy(The Fluffy Bagel Mix)*/Superfly Guy(The Visitor Mix)** +Theme From Funky Killer [RHYTHM KING LEFT R28T] UK 7″ Superfly Guy/Funky Killer [RHYTHM KING LEFT 28] UK CD” Superfly Guy(7″)/Theme From Funky Killer/Lollypop/Superfly Guy(The Fluffy Bagel Mix)* [RHYTHM KING LEFT 28CD] US 12″ Superfly Guy(12″)+(7″)/Lolly-Pop + Funky Killer [CAPITOL V-15409] US DJ PROMO 12″ Superfly Guy(The Fluffy Bagel Mix) + (The Visitor Mix)/Superfly Guy(Do The Bourasa Mix)*** + Theme From Funky Killer [CAPITOL SPRO-79432] US 7″ Superfly Guy/Funky Killer [CAPITOL P-B-44225] US CASSINGLE Superfly Guy/Funky Killer [CAPITOL 4BX-44225} * Remix by the Marks Brothers(Mark Moore and Mark McGuire) The Fluffy Bagel Mix is a must. Huge everywhere from the Detroit underground to acid house clubs in the UK. RARE! Derrick May was known to play a special acetate he made of a looped/edit version of Lolly-Pop. Funky Killer became a secret weapon by DJs such as J Saul Kane(Depth Charge) who would cover the label up on the 7" and when asked, say it was a track from the 70's! It was included in React Record's Dope Classics compilation in 1997. Again US copies had samples replaced so stick to UK versions! Exception being the great US DJ Promo with the wonderful Do The Bourasa Mix. This is pretty similar to the original but Mr Bourasa has done some cool edits and thrown in snippets of Theme and Curtis Mayfield's Superfly. RARE! Initial copys or the UK 12" had the band name and track title in green writing(center sleave) but this was changed to yellow so it would show up more. Great trippy artwork by David Little. Note change of spelling from S-Express to S'Express. No reason. no reason at all! UK 7" Bomb The Bass - Megablast(Original Rap Version) + S'Xpress - Coma/The Wee Papa Girl Rappers - You Got The Beat + DJ Jazzy Jeff And Fresh Prince - Here We Go Again [RM SURE 1} Free 7" given away with Record Mirror. It consisted of breathing, a heartbeat and a sonar blip. Some pirate radios would play it over the top of Acid House tunes or under the bits where they talk. Mark describes it as the tale of a girl who is brought out of a coma by being played her favourite tune (Theme From S-Express natch) and decides to get a tattoo. The Coma track was later expanded to become Coma II(A.M/O.K) on the Original Soundtrack album. RARE! Coma II (A.M/O.K) was the first ambient house track predating even The Orb. UK 12" Hey Music Lover(G-OO-D Vibration Mix)/Have A Nice Day+Hey Music Lover(Music Is My Life Mix) [RHYTHM KING LEFT 30T]

Happy Happy S’Express was a secret track at the end of the b-side of the second UK 12″ Hey Music Lover(Spatial Expansion Mix). It featured Mark Moore and Mark McGuire singing on helium balloon gas and playing children’s toys. So business as usual really. The third UK 12″, the Philip Glass mix, titled The Glass Cut [LEFT L30T] came with a special plastic wallet which housed all three 12′s of the trilogy. RARE! The Miller Mash Glass Smash (available on the UK CD) also came as a one-sided promo only white label 12″[LEFT X30T]. RARE! This is a supremely insane mix by William Orbit from the remixes of Philip Glass with Kurt Munkasci and Daniel Miller. The CD says “Desperate Dan & Chillin’ Phil ripped to shreds by Raging Bill”. It even includes a snippet of Daniel Miller’s Warm Leatherette “see the breaking glass”. Released later on vinyl as the b-side of UK 12″ Mantra For A State Of Mind(The Baby Ford Experience) [LEFT X35T] The US CD came in one of those long display, waste of a tree packets. With all its mixes it was affectionately known as the S’Express endurance test. US mixes have a couple of extra lines sung by Billie Ray Martin that never made it onto any of the UK mixes (“I just want to sing to you ’cause playing bad is hard to do”). Mark is unable to recall a US 7″ but he is unable to remember what he had for breakfast let alone whether one exists. Neither myself nor Mark have an American 12″ of Music Lover so please feel free to send in any spare copies! Note change of spelling from S’Express to S’Xpress. Radio interviewers would ask “…so why did you drop the E?” and the band would burst into uncontrollable laughter. UK DJ PROMO 12″ P.P.P./The Age [VOTG 01] This mysterious looking promotional item was actually a sampler of the forthcoming S’Express LP “Intercourse”. The tracks were a version of Pimps Pushers Prostitutes minus Merlin’s monologue backed with L’Age Du Gateau. Vocal on both sides by Billie Ray Martin. RARE! UK PROMO 12″ Megamix Mixed by Colin Faver [VOTG 02] This stunning one-sided megamix by Colin Faver came with a great David Little etching of the band on the other side. Tracks include:
UK 12″ Mantra For A State Of Mind[Parts 1 and 2](Elevation Mix)/Special and Golden [RHYTHM KING LEFT 35T]
UK 7″ Mantra For A State Of Mind/Special and Golden [RHYTHM KING LEFT 35] UK CD Mantra For A State Of Mind(7″)/Special and Golden/Mantra For A State Of Mind[Parts 1 and 2](Elevation Mix) [RHYTHM KING LEFT 35CD] * Remix by Mark Moore and William Orbit Michelle leaves the band and Linda X joins for for this one single. Of all these 12″s the The Baby Ford Experience mix is the one to get – a masterpiece! It incorporates the bassline and bits of Theme From SXP and gets kind of deep. For added value the Miller Mash Glass Smash is included. RARE! This is closely followed by the Mantra For A State Of Mind(Club Vocal) especially for the Groove Mantra and Mantra System remixes by Moore and William Orbit. The 7″ Mantra For A State Of Mind (Baby Ford Experience) had “special edition double groove” printed on the top right corner of the sleave. It was an edit of the Baby Ford mix on one side with a double groove on the other. Depending on where the needle fell you would hear either Mantra System or a short story written by Moore (published in City Limits) and read by Chilo. VERY RARE! A few white labels of Mantra got out which had a mix that was scrapped called the Direct Mix. This is similar to the Elevation Mix but is mainly instrumental for the last half (and is rather good!). This was going to be the first 12″ release of Mantra but somehow ended up in oblivion. On the b-side was the Elevation Mix. The run out groove says [LEFT 35T A1] and “NAM MYO HO RENGE KYO”. EXTREMELY RARE! Artwork on the Club Vocal (12″) and The Baby Ford Experience (12″ plus 7″) by New York fashion illustrator Miss Tobie Giddeo. Miss Tobie is also the sampled voice on Special And Golden and Coma. She is also one of the girls laughing hysterically on Nervous Motion. UK 12″ Nothing To Lose/Find Time To Be Yourself (Geetar Heaven Mix) + My Laser (Just Won’t Function Anymore) [RHYTHM KING SEXY 01T] UK CD Nothing To Lose (7″)/Find Time To Be Yourself (Vocal)/My Laser (Just Won’t Function Anymore)/Find Time To Be Yourself(Geetar Heaven Mix) [RHYTHM KING SEXY 01CD] UK 7″ Nothing To Lose/Find Time To Be Yourself (Vocal Mix) [RHYTHM KING SEXY 01] UK CASSINGLE Nothing To Lose (7″)/Find Time To Be Yourself(Vocalmix) [RHYTHM KING SEXY 01C] US 12″ Nothing To Lose (Can’t Lose Club Mix)** + Nothing To Lose (Freestyle Dub)** + Find Time To Be Yourself (Full Vocal Mix)/Nothing To Lose (Subterranean Mix)** + Nothing To Lose (Subterranean Dub)** + Nothing To Lose(UK 12″ Mix) [SIRE/WARNER BROTHERS 0-21789] US CD Nothing To Lose (Single Mix)**/Nothing To Lose(Subterranean Mix)**/My Laser(Just Won’t Function Anymore)/Find Time To Be Yourself (Full Vocal Mix)/Nothing To Lose(Can’t Lose Club Mix)**/Nothing To Lose(Subterranean Dub)**/Nothing To Lose(UK 12″ Mix)/Find Time To Be Yourself(Geetar Heaven Mix)/Nothing To Lose(Boon Mix)*** [SIRE/WARNER BROTHERS 9 21789-2] * Remix by J Saul Kane(Depth Charge) and Gota Nothing To Lose and Find Time To Be Yourself (Full Vocal Mix) are the first S*Express tracks to feature the wonderful Sonique on vocals. Chilo and Linda Love leave for pastures new. Find Time To Be Yourself (Geetar Heaven Mix) was an instrumental version which proved very popular in clubs. Find Time To Be Yourself also featured Carl Craig on additional drum programming. Nothing To Lose (J Saul Kane/Gota Mix) was overlooked at the time but is quite brilliant giving the track an epic melancholic edge! And Short Mad Thing is a nutty edits version of Nothing To Lose in a Latin Rascals style. The Tom Richardson and Eric Kupper mixes of Nothing To Lose were a US promo only 12″ that became quite in demand and hard to get hold of. The Boon Mix is on the US CD. It features the last work of Chep Nunez (one of Mark’s heroes) who died shortly after in a tragic fire accident (The US release of Nothing To Lose is dedicated to him). RARE! The UK Club Mix on the US 12″ and CD is incorrectly credited to J Saul Kane and Gota when it is in fact the original mix. I pray to God that someone, somewhere finds this information useful. UK 12″ Find ‘Em Fool ‘Em Forget ‘Em(Stax Mix) + Find ‘Em Fool ‘Em Forget ‘Em(Qwerty Club Mix)*/I Like It [RHYTHM KING SEXY 02T] UK CD Find ‘Em Fool ‘Em Forget ‘Em(7″ Stax Mix)/I Like It/ Find ‘Em Fool ‘Em Forget ‘Em(Twilight Mix)** [RHYTHM KING SEXY 02CD] UK 7″ Find ‘Em Fool ‘Em Forget ‘Em/I Like It [RHYTHM KING SEXY 02] UK CASSINGLE Find ‘Em Fool ‘Em Forget ‘Em(7″ Stax Mix)/I Like It [RHYTHM KING SEXY 02C] * Remix by John Coxon Find ‘Em Fool ‘Em Forget ‘Em (Stax Mix) was S’Express’ biggest flop…and also the one that people who have it, are the most passionate about! This again features Sonique on vocals and these are the original versions (it was later remixed and housed up by Band Of Gypsies). All the mixes on the two 12″s are sublime and the wall of sound of the Stax Mix is mindblowing. Find ‘Em Fool ‘Em Forget ‘Em is not available on the UK Intercourse album in the original Stax Mix and only available on the US album in the edited 7″ mix. RARE! The UK CD has the full length STAX Mix. Huzzah! Find ‘Em Fool ‘Em Forget ‘Em (The Eighth Out Mix) is the classic Andy Weatherall mix and came in very small quantities. VERY RARE! The record sleeve was designed by Mark Moore. UK PROMO 12″ Trumpets + Twinkle(Step Into My Mind)(Psychotronic Mix)/Nervous Motion* + Find ‘Em Fool ‘Em Forget ‘Em(The Eighth Out Mix)** [RHYTHM KING/SONY XPR 1770] * Remix by Kurt Rogers (for UK album) Promo only 12″ of tracks to promote the forthcoming Intercourse album. Came in a specially designed “plain brown paper wrapper” sleave. RARE! Trumpets features Carl Craig on additional drum programming. Danny Rampling played a specially cut acetate of the instrumental at the time. The Carl Craig M. Bation Stroke Special Mix was also released as a one sided promo only 12″ for some reason. Possibly a full unedited mix. He did the mix for Mark as a birthday present. Ahhhhhhhh! Isn’t that nice! The CD packaging is truly a work of art. Thought up by Mark and realised by Morgan Penn featuring the luscious Annette as cover girl. It’s a classic! The one with Michelle, Chilo and Linda Love. Guest Stars:

Find ‘Em, Fool ‘Em, Forget ‘Em is an edit of the original Stax mix.
Track 4 has Twinkle(Step Into My Mind) in its original mix, only available on the US album. Twinkle was used in Beverly Hills 90210 in the episode where they go to a rave and experiment with drugs!

Not to be confused with Mark’s Splish release Let The Fun Begin by Fluffy Toy IQ which Saffron named this track after.
