many of you might not know but Visionquest homegirl Laura Jones is suffering from a genetic eye disorder called STARGARDT DISEASE which causes progressive loss of vision and can result in BLINDNESS. our good friend Gill Dalton is running the Virgin London Marathon tomorrow to raise money for research into this condition. Gill was inspired to run after her friend, 30 year old Laura Jones from Leeds, was diagnosed with Stargardt’s Muscular Dystrophy.
Gill said: “I met Laura through a group of friends on a trip to Rome eight years ago. She had a passionate ambition to become a DJ and loves music. When she was diagnosed with Stargardt’s in 2008 it was a huge blow to her that she would slowly lose her sight. I know that Fight for Sight has funded some research into Stargardt’s and I hope that in the next few years there will be scientific advances to halt Laura’s sight loss or better still to restore the sight she has lost. Fight for Sight seemed the logical choice for me.
“Laura has achieved her ambition as I always knew she would and is now an international DJ playing in places all over the world including China, Australia and South America. She is finding getting around increasingly challenging but is still managing to pursue her dream.
“I’ve always enjoyed sport but the furthest I have ever run is 10k. I nearly did a half marathon last year and again in March this year but both times I suffered an injury and had to withdraw. When I had a strain injury earlier this year I thought I may have to give up again but I persevered with what training I could concentrating on strength work and pilates.
“I have now had the go ahead to run so am doing my best to catch up with the running over the next few weeks. I’ve managed 14 miles so I think I should be alright.”
Gill is giving her fundraising a final push now that she is fit to run.
Fight for Sight is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to funding pioneering eye research to prevent sight loss and treat eye disease. It is currently funding £8million of research.

Our good friend, John Walker was in a really bad car wreck 2 nights ago and is currently in a induced coma to stop his brain swelling. Anyone who has had the pleasure of knowing John knows he is one of the good ones and light to many. John has 3 kids, wife and like anyone else lots of responsibilities.
